With each bump,we were careful to hold Mikaela as she came up off the seat and laughed out loud. And she really thought she was the cat's meow when her Grandma let her sit on her lap and steer the cart. I wasn't sure what I enjoyed more - spending the afternoon with my friend Mary, or enjoying the sweetness of a child's innocence.
As we drove over the bridge to hole #9, there on the other side appeared a small pond we would have to hit our golf balls over. Mary and I looked at the pond in fear of both of us landing yet another couple of golf balls in another body of water. The sun was shining bright, blinding our vision from even being able to see where our balls would land - IF they even made it over the water. And even though this made us laugh, we both saw the water as defeat.
But before we could choose the appropriate golf club to attempt making it over the water, little Mikaela gasped in awe. We turned to look at her, and she was pointing at the water, sooo excited, with a huge smile of excitement on her face, and yelled, "Grandma! LOOK! It's S*P*A*R*K*L*E W*A*T*E*R !!!" The sun was creating a sparkling effect on the surface of the water, and it truly was - spectacular!
Mikaela didn't see defeat in that water. She saw God's beauty.
Matthew 18:3 says, "Then He said, "I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven."
I'm thankful to you, Mary, for sharing your sweet Mikaela with me that day a few years ago. I haven't ever looked at a body of water quite the same since, and I am so thankful for that! Because now, I want to see the world through Mikaela's eyes.
Rita thank u for sharing this beautiful story about mikaela...it brought tears to my eyes.
